Edinburgh BS Open Show 2009

Edinburgh Budgerigar Society 58th Open Show

(Held on 1 August 2009)

Best in Show and Best Any Age was unanimously awarded to local champion, Bill Miller’s Spangle Green Cock which was presented in outstanding show condition.  Best Young Bird in Show was awarded to Main & Jenkins with their opaline green hen; best opposite sex young bird was a grey green cock from P Redford and best opposite sex any age went to Quigley and Watson with their grey green hen.

In over 40 years of exhibiting at this show, Bill has once won best opposite sex in show and once best breeder in show, This is the first occasion that he has won the supreme award.

The winning spangle’s father is a grey normal cock with which Bill had some show success in 2008 and the spangle’s son has been quite successful on the show bench this year.

BS “Gold” patronage attracted a bench entry of 640 which was down slightly due to four exhibitors not entering their birds on the day of the show but the verdict of the judges was that the quality was better than last year.  The show hall again came in for favourable comment due to its natural lighting, facilities, location, and ease of parking and off-loading of the birds.  The disabled parking bays immediately outside the show hall assisted several disabled exhibitors, a facility not found at many of the show halls in Scotland unfortunately.

The judges who travelled from England commented very favourably on the high quality of the hotel accommodation that had been provided to them as well as the three course lunch provided during the show-catering was kindly supplied by Jose and Bob Quigley.

Judges were J Shepherd, D Pringle, H Hockaday, A Adams & P Hutchinson

Scottish Specialist & Rare Variety Show 11/10/08

Well, it's almost over for another year, today was the penultimate show of the season. The Scottish Specialist and Rare Variety Show, this year the venue changed to Kirkcaldy, which seemed to go down well with most exhibitors. The show had a benched entry of 379, much to the delight of the SBS President Willie Orr, he won the "Guess the Benched Entry" (Suspicious or what? Bit of inside info there)

Only teasing Willie!

Donald Burnett was once again Show Manager and made sure that the show went well for all, but as usual you couldn't keep him away from the camera, who said he was camera shy?

"I CAN SEE YOU"

The Best team of the day went to the other side of Scotland with Ian & Margaret Yeats taking the trophy, Tom Barrie jokingly remarked to them that "he would let them look after it for the year", until he won it back. Margaret and Ian replied that "they would make sure they kept it next year."

The gauntlet has been thrown down!!!!!!!

Scottish Northern Open Show 2008 31/8/08

Scottish Northern held their annual show today, the show was dedicated to the memory of one of it's founder members,Harold Hepburn, who had sadly passed away earlier this year. Harold always attended most shows in Scotland, but had a particular fondness for the Scottish Northern.

Best in Show went to the Partnership  of John & Teresa Ross, with a cracking Double Factor Spangle. ( See Photo Galleries ) John and Teresa had a brilliant day, taking not only Best in Show, they also got Best Young Bird in Show,Best Opposite Sex Young Bird and a total of 4 CC's, Normal Cinnamon, Opaline Cinnamon,Spangle, and AOC, the partnership of K & E Summersgill took Best Opposite Sex AA in show, Davy Scott took Best Intermediate Any Age with a Sky Blue Spangle.

Best Junior Young Bird went to J Smith

Kirkcaldy Open Show 2008 17/08/08

Kirkcaldy held their annual show today, much to the delight of the show committee the entry was up on last years and the benched figure was 695.

This means that Kirkcaldy will have Gold Patronage next year along with Edinburgh. The show went ran extremely well and all the volunteers were kept in check under the watchful eye of the show manager Donald Burnett.

As well as being the annual show the day was a very special one for one well known couple Hugh and Susan Ballantyne, they celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary, 40 years for anyone that doesn't know.

Donald congratulated them both at the end of the show and presented Susan with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

As the SBS President was sunning himself in Canada, (lucky for some) the patronage was dealt with by a couple of novices at the job Donald Bruton and Honor Dickie.

Donald was jokingly heard to say that "he didn't know what all the fuss was about". That's fighting talk and

Willie Orr said he had heard that their were a couple of amateurs doing the job.

SBS AREA OPEN SHOW 2008 10/08/08

The SBS Area Championship Show was held today in it's usual venue of Dewars Rinks in Perth, the show was well attended, but the turnout was down on last year, which was a little disappointing, but, like last year, the weather is taking it's toll on the birds and many breeders didn't have any birds ready in time. Total number of birds benched was 813.

The Best in Show went to T & A Luke.

This year we were transferred to the ice rink, which is out of action, it was a large spacious hall, but, the only complaint was that it was too hot. As usual everyone pitched in to help and the show comittee were very pleased with the number of volunteers that helped out, before during and after the show, it was a great help and for once people got home in time for tea.

Lanarkshire Central BS Open Show 12/07/08

LANARKSHIRE CENTRAL BS OPEN SOCIETY SHOW MAIN WINNERS. Saturday 12th July.

BEST IN SHOW - W MILLER

BEST YOUNG BIRD IN SHOW - T YOUNG

BEST ANY AGE IN SHOW - W MILLER

BEST OPPOSITE SEX YOUNG BIRD IN SHOW - R NAWARAUCKAS

BEST OPPOSITE SEX ANY AGE IN SHOW - D BURNETT

Lanarkshire Central show was held at the Pather Community Centre, there were some absolutely superb birds on show and was well attended. The show organisers reported that the numbers of exhibits benched was considerabley up on last year's figures, highly encouraging in these times of ever increasing costs. Let's hope this trend continues.

Best in Show went to Bill Miller with a superb grey cock. Picture still to be taken as the bird refused to co-operate when the camera appeared, typical of these "showbiz personalities" may have to rely on "papparazzi tactics" and hide behind the staging and zoom in.

Kingdom of Fife - Young Bird Show  10/5/08

Kingdom Of Fife held their annual Young Bird show in the Philp Hall. Considering the downturn in show attendance last year, it was well attended

and the number of exhibits benched, reached a total of 286 an increase of last year's total benched by 42. Let's hope that this trend continues for the rest of the shows in 2008.

The judges had a hard task ahead of them as most exhibitors agreed that there were some excellent birds on show.(Some of which are shown in the Photo Gallery) The door security was tight and you had to get past these two, mind you looking at this picture we could have run a truck full of birds through.

"SLEEPYHEADS"

Not only were the security tired, some of the exhibitors relaxed and watched proceedings from the sidelines.

The show went like clockwork, under the watchful eye of the show manager Donald Burnett, who was abley assisted in this task by all members of the club and as usual the raffle went well.

The Best in Show award was a "double whammy" for Alan Murray, who also won Best Opposite Sex in Show, here he is proudly showing off his trophies, but, was heard saying that he was a bit disappointed as the cups didn't contain a pair of tickets for The UEFA Cup Final.

Best O/A Champion/ Intermediate went to the partnership of Graham and McLean. Robert picked up the trophy on their behalf.

Best O/A Novice/Beginner went to Ann Guthrie.

Welcome
